Xiaomi is in talks with Qualcomm and Google to release an update to the Poco F1 to roll out Widevine L1 which is what prevents the Poco F1 smartphone to stream HD content on Netflix and Amazon Prime Videos. The update will hit the first batch of MIUI Beta ROM users by the end of 2018.
Xiaomi’s Poco F1 smartphone has been on the headlines ever since it was launched in August for a starting price of Rs 20,999. The mid-priced flagship smartphone earned rave reviews from the technology crowd barring a few issues including screen bleeding and the lack of support to play HD content on Amazon prime video and Netflix.
From the looks of it, Xiaomi looks to be gearing up to fix the latter issue as a company spokesperson mentioned that it’ll soon relay support for Widevine L1. Widevine L1 is what prevents the Poco F1 smartphone to stream HD content on Netflix and Amazon Prime Videos.
According to a thread by MIUI Four admin, Xiaomi is in talks with Qualcomm and Google to release an update to the Poco F1 to roll out Widevine L1. The update is expected to hit the first batch of MIUI Beta ROM users by the end of 2018, before December.
In addition to rendering support for HD streaming, a future update will allow third-party apps to use the full-screen display for more screen efficiency and designing all four corners of the display rounded when hiding the notch under settings.
Earlier this month, Xiaomi addressed the screen bleeding issue on some Poco F1 smartphones and ensured that it “will not affect the performance or usability of the phone in any manner”. Last month, the company also revealed that the Poco F1 support P2i splash resistance and Quick Charge 4.0 technology.
