World’s First Smartphone With Dual Notch Display Launched


Expanding the range of its Aquos series of smartphones, Sharp Mobile has launched the world’s first smartphone with dual notch display. Dubbed as Sharp Aquos R2, the smartphone has been launched in Japan and is said to be available in January next year in three color options – black, white and green.

Sharp Aquos R2 Specifications and Features

Featuring a 5.2 inches IZGO full HD+ display with Gorilla Glass 3, HDR10 support and 2280×1080 pixels of resolution, its upper notch houses selfie camera whereas the ‘home’ button is being housed by the secondary notch at the bottom of the display. What’s interesting about its display is that it refreshes at the rate of 120Hz.
Powering the Sharp Aquos R2 is Qualcomm’s top-end Snapdragon 845 processor coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of ROM. Its internal storage can be expanded up to 512GB via microSD. It runs on Android 9 Pie and comes with company’s proprietary AI-voice assistant called EMOPA.
Coming to the imaging department, the handset features a 22.6 megapixels camera on the rear with Optical & Electronic image stabilization, 22mm f/1.9 lens and LED flash. It also features an 8 megapixels shooter at the front for selfies video calling with f/2.2 aperture.

Connectivity options on the smartphone include 3.5mm audio jack, USB type-c port, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, Wi-Fi, 4G with VoLTE and dual SIM. Further, with the IP68 rating for water and dust resistance, the handset measures 131x64x9.3mm in dimensions and weighs 135 grams.
