Just days after launching the Galaxy A9 (2018) in India, Samsung is now rolling out the Galaxy On7 and On7 Pro smartphones with a new update. The update ports the software of these devices to Android 8.1 Oreo with new features and the latest Android security.

The latest update to the Samsung Galaxy On7 (or J7 Prime in some regions) shifts the build version to G610LKLU1CRK8 while the same update to the Galaxy On7 Pro (or J7 Prime 2) will carry the software version G611KKKU1BRK6. Both updates will bring with it Google’s 2017 mobile OS - Android Oreo, featuring notifications dots, Picture-in-Picture mode, autofill, redesigned settings menu, a new Notification Center and notification snooze options.

In addition to Android 8.1 Oreo, the Galaxy On7 and On7 Pro now get the latest November 2018 batch of Android security updates. The update will be rolled out in India in a phased manner and to manually check for the same, you’ll need to head over to Settings > Software updates.

Having known for its poor reliability on software updates, it’s good to see that Samsung is pushing a major software update to its three-year-old device.

The Galaxy On7 was launched with a 5.5-inch HD TFT-LCD display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and a 294 ppi pixel density. At its launch, it was powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 with 1.5GB RAM and 8GB internal storage and was backed up by a 3000 mAh. The device initially ran on Android 5.1 Lollipop and with the latest update, the device has received its third major Android update, three years since its launch.
