In addition to the new R&D centre, OnePlus also plans to expand its offline presence through its own OnePlus Experience Store. The company already has its own Exclusive Service Centre in Hyderabad and is available offline in the city through exclusive partnerships with Croma and Reliance Digital.
A week after partnering with Amazon India to announce community rewards on its four year anniversary in India, OnePlus has announced its first R&D facility in the country at Hyderabad. The facility will play a critical role in the development of Artificial Intelligence and Machine learning and also drive innovations relevant to the company’s Indian community.
OnePlus has also revealed why it zeroed in on Hyderabad for building its first R&D centre in the country. The company claimed that Hyderabad is one of the most active start-up zones in the country for emerging technologies and thus offers a sizeable pool of talent that OnePlus feels could be depleted to bring new innovations to the smartphone industry.
In addition to the new R&D centre, OnePlus also plans to expand its offline presence through its own OnePlus Experience Store. The company already has its own Exclusive Service Centre in Hyderabad and is available offline in the city through exclusive partnerships with Croma and Reliance Digital.
The R&D facility will play a crucial role as OnePlus charts its roadmap towards adopting the Indian market as it has started local production of PCBs and other smartphone components. The centre will also contribute to nurturing and giving opportunities to fresh talent and OnePlus has thus started hiring programs at IIT Delhi and IIT Mumbai this year.
Speaking about their latest development, OnePlus CEO, Pete Lau said “In three years, we plan to grow the new R&D centre in Hyderabad into our biggest globally. We plan to re-focus our R&D efforts on a large scale and drive innovations in India for the global product, especially on the software side with a special emphasis on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning”.
