Will it be able to create a place for itself in the competitive market? We got the chance to spent some time with the device and this is what we think of it.
Meizu, after keeping a mum for years, has marked its re-entry in the Indian smartphone market with the launch of a new budget-centric smartphone, the M6T. The smartphone comes with a price tag of Rs 7,999 and it will be exclusively available on Amazon.
With this, the company is offering nothing particularly new for the budget segment. The phone is equipped with a quite standard specs sheet. The question here is: Will it be able to create a place for itself in the competitive market? We got the chance to spent some time with the device and this is what we think of it.
Design and Display
Starting with the design first, the Meizu M6T looks like a standard smartphone present in the budget segment. The phone comes with a unibody design with a gentle curve around the edges, which makes it easier to hold in your hand. The back panel is equipped with a LED flash at the top centre position, while the camera module and fingerprint sensor are aligned vertically in a line, which gives a good look.
The front of the device is equipped with a large display with an earpiece and front-facing camera resting at the top. The screen comes loaded with some noticeable bezels at the top and the base. The right of the device houses volume controls and power on/off button, while the left sports dual-SIM slot. The top of the device bears headphone jack, while at the base, you will find micro USB port flanked between two speaker grilles. That said, the smartphone gives a good look and it is quite lightweight in nature with 145 grams.
Coming to the display, Meizu M6T features a 5.7-inch HD+ display with a screen resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels. The screen bears a pixel density of 282ppi and it has a contrast ratio of 1000:1. The display looks quite average in our initial testing as you might find a cool colour temperature, though the text looks sharp on this one. The viewing angles seem to be decent and will talk more about this in our upcoming review.
Hardware and Software
On the hardware front, the Meizu M6T is powered by a MediaTek MT6750 octa-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz, along with Mali T860 GPU. The phone is backed by a 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 128GB via a microSD card slot. That said, the phone looks a bit underpowered when you compared it with the likes of Lenovo K9, Xiaomi Redmi 6 and Realme 2.
On the software front, the Meizu M6T runs on FlymeOS 6, which is based on Android 7.0 Nougat. At a time when most of the manufacturers are providing the Android 8.1 Oreo with their latest offering, Meizu is still stuck with Nougat. The brand has not revealed when it will give Oreo update to its recently-launched device and it is sad to see that a brand, which is making a grand comeback, is still giving you much older Android experience as compared to its competition.
Camera
On the camera front, the Meizu M6T is equipped with a dual-camera setup with a combination of a 13-megapixel primary camera with f/2.2 aperture, with LED flash, OV13855 sensor and 2-megapixel secondary camera with f/2.8 aperture.
For the front, it features an 8-megapixel camera for selfies and video chats with f/2.0 aperture. The camera performance seems to be average in our initial testing as the detailing was particularly missing in photos, which we clicked in broad daylight. We will talk more about the camera performance in our upcoming review.
Battery and Connectivity
On the battery front, the Meizu M6t is juiced up by a 3300mAh battery, which should ideally last a day or so. However, we are yet to test it out. On the connectivity front, it supports 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth 4.1, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n, GPS/AGPS and a micro USB port.
Verdict
The Meizu M6T fails to make a solid impression with its sub-par specifications coupled with the older Android version and average camera performance. As for the competition is concerned, the Meizu M6T will face a stiff competition from Lenovo K9, Realme C1, Xiaomi Redmi 6 and more.
